EDD Veterans Services
The State of California Employment Development Department referred to as (EDD) where most people frequent for unemployment services views Veteran employment efforts as a key priority. Each EDD office staff’s specialty trained Veteran Employment Representatives who provide one-on-one assistance with applications, job interviews, and vocational guidance. With their assistance, you can learn about veteran workshops, training, and other services that may be available. They are ready to give you the priority service you deserve.

CalVet
The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) works to serve California veterans and their families. In addition to ensuring the nearly 2 million veterans and their families living in the State get the state and federal benefits and services they have earned, CalVet works closely with Los Angeles local service providers on Veteran employment assistance and job fairs. www.calvet.ca.gov/veteran-services-benefits/employment

Los Angeles County America’s Job Center provides specialized, attentive services to assist Veterans to re-enter the civilian workforce and to achieve a competitive edge in the labor market.  Veterans receive premier, priority of education, training, career counseling, and support services via a distinctly qualified staff of Veterans.
Veterans Initiative Program (VIP)
All AJCCs provide Veterans access to the following free services:

Information and Referral Services

The VIP is a veterans’ employment program offered in all WorkSource Centers and is specifically designed to help vets secure employment through our community partners. If a veteran wants to return to school our VIP can help. We maintain a working relationship with the Los Angeles Community College District, University of California and California State University systems.

Goodwill Southern California – Veteran Employment Program
Veteran Employment Program advisors offers skills assessments, one-on-one career counseling, employment preparation courses, educational and technical skills classes, and work tools as well as access to a host of other partner services including shelter and housing assistance, transportation assistance, medical and dental health services, mental health and substance abuse counseling, Veterans Benefits Assistance and more – all aimed at helping veterans secure meaningful and sustainable employment.

New Directions for Veterans
New Directions for Veterans (NDVets) provides comprehensive services to thousands of veterans in Los Angeles County. NDVets offers a wide array of services, including job training and placement. Volunteers of America HVRP
Volunteers of America’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program HVRP (also known as Helping Veterans Receive Paychecks) helps ensure that male and female veterans receive the employment and training services they need to get good, sustainable jobs. The programs offer job counseling, resume preparation, job placement, and follow-up. HVRP also provides immediate transitional housing on-site and through referrals to VOALA Pathways to Home.

The program is administered by the County of Los Angeles Department of Human Resources and provides paid internships for qualified veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States. The LA Veterans Portal and Veterans Resource Corps (211la.org)
The LA Veterans Portal is an innovative, web-based platform where local veterans can research services, call 211 directly, or receive direct assistance from a member of the “Veterans Service Corps” (VRC) who operate out of our LA City Libraries. VRC consists of 20 veterans who work out of 10 of our libraries and provide other veterans “peer support” while they identify/access services. The portal has the most extensive and vetted veterans resource directory in the region.
