Have a specific goal
Focus on a main goal and see it clearly in your mind.
Think, “Come hell or high water, I’m going to make it happen.” Clearly see your goal and have faith that you will accomplish it. No matter what others say or what obstacles come along, you need to be unshakeable in your commitment to that goal.
It takes a work ethic to accomplish goals. It’s not enough to believe in your goal; you have a work at it on a regular basis. Eat, sleep, and dream that goal, and back up your vision with persistent action.
Stay healthy and fit
A body that’s in good shape makes it easier to have a mind that’s in good shape. Body fitness strongly effects mental, emotional and spiritual fitness. Good nutrition and regular exercise…even walking…are big steps for success.
There are so many options available today for people to expand their skills through extension classes. For example, if you’re an aspiring lawyer, you might take a speech class. But whether you take a class that meshes with your career goal, or you take a totally unrelated class just to follow a passion outside your field, you’re broadening your horizons. In my case I went from dancing, to singing, to acting classes. Learning, in my book, should
A lot of us become very self-absorbed, and too much so. It doesn’t have to be that way. We can teach ourselves to be more open, more humanitarian. As they say, the more you give, the more you get back. A closed hand doesn’t receive; an open hand, receives. At first we may see giving as a burden, but if we practice giving to others enough, it can become a joyful habit. And once we have that habit, we realize that our giving is helping ourselves at least as much as we’re helping others.
Stay in tune with your inner being
There are always going to be obstacles and adversities that test us. It doesn’t help to simply stress-out and be afraid of challenges. Unrecognized stress blocks creativity and being effective. It also harms the body. We should remind ourselves that most of the things we worry about never come to fruition. We need to find a balance between totally ignoring our problems, and worrying about them incessantly. Stress can actually be used for success if we use it as a motivator to dig in and work harder than we did before.
But the hard work should be balanced with a peaceful inner state. That’s tremendously important. If you’re not already meditating or doing yoga, why not give them a try.
Enjoy the journey
Don’t make your enjoyment of life a ‘some day’ goal. Every single day is a rare, non-returnable precious gift.
