ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
*Performs dental examinations and determines appropriate dental care and treatment.
*Administers anesthetics and treats infections and diseases of the teeth, jaws, gums and surrounding tissues; confers with patients concerning diagnosis and treatment; and instructs patients in oral hygiene.
*Accepts dental emergencies and administers post-operative treatment.
*Provides patients with dental appliances.
*Requests examinations, analysis, and x-rays; review reports, records, and progress of patients.
*Participates in staff and scientific conferences.
*Maintains clinic records and patient charts.
*Performs prophylaxes and instructs patients on proper dental care.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Degree of doctor of dental surgery or doctor of dental medicine conferred by a dental school approved by the World Health Organization as required by the California Dental Practice Act.*Physical Class: Light: *Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.Licenses: A valid California license to practice dentistry issued by the Dental**Board of California** -AND- A valid Radiation Safety License issued by the Dental**Board of California** -OR- A certificate of compliance from an approved Board course in Radiation Safety. Graduation from an approved dental program,accredited by the American Dental Association, after the year 1980 complies with the Radiation Safety Requirement.
**Special Requirement Information: *Applicants MUST submit a copy of the degree of doctor of dental surgery OR doctor of dental medicine at the time of filing.
**Applicants MUST submit copies of their valid licenses to practice as a Dentist AND a Radiation Safety License issued by the Dental Board of California OR a copy of a certificate of compliance from an approved Board course in Radiation Safety at the time of filing.
SPECIAL INFORMATION Shift: Any Shift Appointees must be willing to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING A FINGERPRINT SEARCH. Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related
misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.
VACANCY EXAMINATION
The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Medical Services Bureau.This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application and resume information weighted 100%.
CONTENT INFORMATION
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher in order to be placed on the eligible register. names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the promulgation date.
No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve(12) months.

CHILD SUPPORT COMPLIANCE
