Technology Segment Underwriting Consultant
Our Technology Segment Underwriters are high level individual contributors responsible for overall management, business development, growth and analysis of a regional book of business consisting of business composed of specialized coverage such as; Global Technology Errors & Omissions, CNA NetProtect solutions and traditional property and causality coverages targeting; small (under $100 Million) and large business (up to $2.5 Billion) the technology vertical defined as;
Software and Hardware Companies
Electronic machinery and equipment manufacturing companies whose products are used to process or display data, including component parts of those systems
Information Technology and Internet services Companies, that offer programming, data processing, consulting and Internet-related services, as well as software development/manufacturing
Telecommunications Service Providers/cable companies, ISP, ASP across Public, Private and Government sectors
Our Technology Segment Underwriters are experienced, technical experts within technology underwriting specialty.They will work conjunction with senior level management and carry the broadest limits of authority requiring the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination. Today CNA’s Technology Segment produces approximately $150 - $170 million in GWP Globally.
Technology Segment Underwriters are accountable for;
Works on highly complex underwriting risks employing diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability. Develops specialized endorsement language for highly complex risk.
Determines appropriate pricing of complex risks for assigned book of business based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
Makes recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy.
Analyzes quality and quantity of highly complex risks underwritten; prepares and presents reports to management.
May market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community.
Develops and maintains agency and/or broker relationships to reach positive and profitable outcomes on complex, high-risk business.
Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups.
May mentor and guide less experienced underwriters and assist in the development of underwriting training.
May be responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations.
Participates in underwriting audits to ensure regulatory compliance
Coordinates and monitors collaboration with supporting internal functions such as actuarial, claim, risk control, legal/regulatory, branch, regional and other business units to ensure alignment with strategy and goals.
Assists branches in coordination of marketing plans, attends agency-related meetings with focus on business line to maintain agency relationships and assists in developing new business sources.
Key Goals and objective are;
Maintain underwriting discipline
Improve CNA current market share and emerging as thought leader.
The Technology Segment Underwriters will be a “hands-on” leaders/drivers with a strong background in dealing with complex underwriting issues focused on information assets, intellectual property, and computer resources. The successful candidate(s) will have a track record of progressive underwriting success in the Technology vertical within a carrier, Agency or brokerage.Ideally direct experience across professional liability and traditional property and causality coverages.Further, should be comfortable working in a matrix environment with the ability to influence and build relationships within the enterprise and distribution channels.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.
Minimum8 years underwriting experience

3or more years of Technology focused underwriting experience
Broad multi-line underwriting knowledge
Knowledge of insurance operations and processing
Visibility within the Technology market
Knowledge of distributions channels existing relationships within community
Knowledge of emerging issues and the completive landscape
Ability to interpret and report on financial results
Strong presence, communication, negotiation and presentation skills demonstrating the ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues
Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems
