Your Gratitude Journal

Feng Shui at Work

Your Gratitude Journal

What goes around comes around. It’s one of the universal laws of karma. It pays to put really positive intentions/actions out into the world so they will come back to us.

Having an attitude of gratitude is infectious. Those two words, “Thank you,” open up so many doors and smiles. Try it sometime. If someone (perhaps a spouse?) points out a mistake to you and is critical of you, instead of getting upset try thanking the person — without sarcasm — for correcting you. Even if deep inside you really don’t feel you were wrong, what you’ll notice is that the act of gratitude will soften the other person and your feelings toward him or her. It’s within that softness that true understanding and balance can prosper.

Setting intentions is a large part of any feng shui practice. But in addition to stating intentions, keeping a Gratitude Journal is a wonderful way to manifest positive movement in our lives. Keep a journal that is used exclusively for giving thanks. Whether you’re grateful for a promotion or a day off, recording that positive influence on your day in a journal will reinforce it and give it more power.

Many days my journal pages read like this: “I am thankful that I woke up this morning. I am thankful for the food I had to eat today. I am thankful that I didn’t gain weight today. I am thankful that I got to work on time today. I am thankful that I found inspiration to paint today. I am thankful that it was sunny so I could take a walk today. I am thankful for the hug I got from my friend.” Nothing major happened. Or did it? Taking the time to write in a Gratitude Journal at the end — or beginning — of every day really becomes a meditative practice. Meditation has a grounding effect on us, keeping us centered and calm. This is a good thing.

Repetitive gratitude will change your life. You’ll be calmer and you’ll start noticing good things happening to you. You may even be thankful that what goes around comes around.
