Working Smart
Save Your Vision Month & Workplace Eye Wellness Month
We can see clearly now
There are two important observances this month and unlike February, neither has anything to do with long-ago presidents.
Save Your Vision
“Save your Vision Month,” sponsored by the American Optometric Association, is focusing this year on healthy vision at the computer. Download a fact sheet to see just what you can do to prevent the headaches, eye strain, blurred vision and dry-eye syndrome that often accompany even moderate computer use. Learn how to set up your personal computer, work station and even your seating to maximize eye comfort, and learn about the special eye skills that are necessary for optimal computer use.
Workplace Eye Wellness
Prevent Blindness America is also observing “Workplace Eye Wellness Month.” This is an effort to promote vision care services in the workplace. You can download helpful information on eye care and prevention, including poster material, here.
One myth everyone is anxious to dispel is that eye exams are necessary only when you are having problems. Go to the site and get reliable information on nutritional supplements, eye makeup, sunglasses and other topics. Workplace injuries, while most common in the construction and industrial sectors, also occur in beauty salons, offices, and other places where chemicals and heat exist. And if you engage in any sports in your spare time, take a minute and check out the section on preventing sports injuries to the eye.
