Get Your Game On at an Interactive Entertainment Job Fair

Want to put some whistle into Wii games? Or a little animation awesomeness into an MMORPG?  Then pull the plug on your plan to sleep in and get hooked up with a career at Westwood College’s interactive entertainment job fair on Saturday, July 11 from 11am to 1:30pm at its Anaheim campus.

Game companies from all over Los Angeles will be looking to hire the best and the brightest of this competitive and booming branch of the entertainment industry. And developers and employment experts will be in attendance to offer tips on resume writing, interviewing, and do’s and don’ts for getting your foot in the door. Several companies will also let loose some of their latest games for attendees to play.

“As a result of our successful game software development and game art programs, Westwood has built incredible partnerships with a variety of both casual game and serious game companies,” said Glennon Neubauer, gaming program director of the Anaheim campus, “and we look forward to bringing those partners to our career fair.”

Headquartered in Denver, Westwood College operates 17 locations in six states — with four campuses in California — and 18 percent of its students are enrolled in gaming degree programs.

At the Anaheim campus students can get a bachelor’s degree in game art through the School of Design, or they can enroll in the School of Technology’s game software development program.

“The interactive entertainment industry is a booming field,” Glennon said, “and Westwood College wants to do all it can to help gaming students get a foot in the door and employed in this industry.”

The job fair will coincide with Westwood’s third annual 2D Game Development Competition Awards, and both events are free and open to the public. For directions and more information, check out the Westwood College website, or find them on Facebook.

Beth Duggan is waiting for the day when Scrabble takes its game into the MMORPG world, where wordsmiths will slay each other with prepositions.
