Feng Shui at Work

Fame Game

Feng shui is about attracting auspicious opportunity. One sector of the feng shui bagua map is called Fame and Reputation. This area pertains to our integrity and to how we are perceived in the world. It’s a very important area for anyone who is out in the working world building a career or a business. Obviously, not all of us are striving to become famous in the sense that a celebrity or sports star is. However, we all have reputations to uphold within our fields of work and community. Whether our reputation precedes us in a positive or negative way is something we need to be aware of so that we can emphasize or strengthen it.

Lately, we’re seeing cases of recent graduates having difficulties with their job searches. Donning a new suit and haircut is not enough to clean up an act that also includes dubious webpages on MySpace. Employers are becoming smart about doing Google searches on prospective job seekers and coming up with reasons not to hire. Before you go out into the working world, be sure that your reputation as a party animal is erased from the Internet! Google yourself and see if your email address turns up on controversial message boards that you’ve long forgotten about posting on. Also remove the website dedicated to your favorite porn star and take down those social networking pages.

Along the employment journey, try to avoid gossiping about colleagues, vendors and bosses. By maintaining neutral relationships with all of your coworkers, you’ll avoid people who may want to sabotage your career climb. Also, it will be easier to obtain good references when you leave the company. By keeping yourself above the fray, you’re maintaining high integrit, which is good for feng shui. Becoming famous for your integrity is the sign of a true leader.

Be sure to get beautiful mattes and frames for your diplomas, certificates, awards and photos of yourself with your mentors. Got trophies or medals, too? Display them with pride to enhance your Fame and Reputation area — you’ve earned it!
