Career Question of the Day
CQ#15: What kind of message should I record on my voice mail at work?
Quick Answer:
Think of your voice mail like your electronic business card. Stay away from obvious messages like "I'm sorry I missed your call," "I'm not at my desk right now," or "Your call is very important to me." Instead, tell callers when you’ll get back to them and ask for their phone number and as much information as they can leave. If possible, even give them the name and phone number of a coworker who might be able to help them in your absence. Voice mail should be an added customer service tool to help you provide quicker, better service. Just like any communication tool, the user determines its usefulness.
